With a population around 20,000, Williston, North Dakota is a small town. But this burg is booming! In the last five years, the population of Williston has increased by more than 5,000 people. This is the result of an oil rush in Bakken shale region of North Dakota.

An astonishing amount of money is now flowing through the region with no signs of slowing down. But it’s not just oil workers reaping the benefits of the situation in Williston. The children of Williston got into the spirit of entrepreneurship a few weeks ago when they held their annual Lemonade Day.

Williston held its Lemonade Day on June 15, 2015 and received strong support from the local community. Sponsors included Haliburton and StatOil, among others. This was the first year for Lemonade Day in Williston and a whopping 142 kids participated.

One amazing group of kids from the Williston Lemonade Day are Skylar, Chris, and Devon Thomas. They can be seen in the photo above before the start of their Lemonade Day. With help from their mom, they built and designed their own lemonade stand called the Lil’ Lemon Tree.

With a goal of $1,000, the Thomas kids set out to start their own business. Like many successful entrepreneurs, they come from a family of “hard workers” with “creative imaginations, loving hearts, and thoughtful minds.” This was the first time the Thomas family had ever done a lemonade stand but we certainly hope it won’t be the last!
